The Aylsham Learning Federation
The Aylsham Learning Federation (ALF) comprises three schools: Aylsham High School, with over 1,000 pupils aged 11-16, and Bure Valley School and John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School, catering to children aged 2-11. Established in 2016 with the initial partnership between Bure Valley and Aylsham High School, ALF expanded in 2018 when John of Gaunt joined the federation. Renowned for fostering collaboration and a seamless approach to education, ALF is recognised for regional excellence and national best practices. John of Gaunt is a community cornerstone, with outstanding staff and pupils contributing to a vibrant and supportive atmosphere.
The situation
The Federation faced an urgent need to transition from its current supplier for broadband connectivity, web filtering, and firewall services before March 2024.
Any proposed solutions had to enhance the teaching and learning environment across the Federation’s schools, both individually and collectively. It was critical to select a single, formally vetted supplier whose solutions met Department for Education (DfE) criteria.
To address these requirements, the Federation approached Rydal Group, an approved provider on an existing framework. Rydal Group delivered a secure, fully managed connectivity solution with robust failover and backup, alongside a proven web filtering solution and a managed, secure firewall.
The result
A Smoothwall web filtering solution, hosted in Rydal’s data center, ensured enhanced safeguarding. As a fully managed service provider and ISP, Rydal delivered:
- Future-proofing Aylsham High School with a 1Gbit leased line for growing bandwidth needs.
- Improved connectivity for primary schools, enhancing teaching and learning.
